Ventrac Tractor Maintenance

Ventrac is in a category apart from other tractors owing to its greater number of moving parts. These machines have articulated four-wheel drive employing two transmissions instead of one. Some models have a cab on them that complicates the service process.

Regular service items are of a scale similar to the Walker mower, with a greasing regimen in addition to the routine engine maintenance issues (oil, fuel, and air filters, spark plugs, etc.)

Naturally, frequency of maintenance will vary with individual use. Your Ventrac will need an oil change annually at minimum, with oil and air filters, spark plugs, and lubrication of many moving parts. With the diesel units, there are no spark plugs to worry about, but there are two fuel filters instead of one.

Oil and Air Filters

Keeping your oil and filters clean will do wonders for the longevity of your Ventrac’s engine. Motors like these that have oil filters should have engine service with every 100 hours of operation. This is the typical manufacturer’s recommendation, but if you’re operating in very dusty, dirty conditions, you would be wise to change the oil more often.

It’s also wise to keep a close eye on the condition of your filters. Inspect your air filters and give them a tap to shake loose accumulated debris. Don’t try to blow them clean; doing so actually makes them less effective. Check to be sure you can see light passing through the filter, and replace it if it fails this test. This is an inexpensive part with a very important job.

Keep in mind that maintaining proper tire pressure is really important to these machines. Also, when operating, keep a lookout for things that feel loose. Operation should feel smooth and tight; any floppiness should be investigated right away.

Brush Attachments and Blades

Brush attachments are very popular with Ventrac operators. You’ll get the best use out of your brush by alternating the angle of your sweeper’s brush so that it wears evenly.

Keeping the blades sharp on your Ventrac’s mowing attachment is key to a quality, professional looking mow. A dull blade tears the grass instead of cleanly cutting it, leading to unsightly brown tips on each blade of grass within a day or so.

Your operating manual will give you specifics; try and be one of the exceptional folks who actually reads it! You’ll do well to maintain a written log of your usage in order to keep your maintenance on schedule.
